Guest Chef Volunteers

Guest Chef volunteers do not need to complete the general Volunteer Application. Please sign up directly through the Guest Chef page, or schedule your opportunity with Darcy.

Group Volunteers

Large groups may combine many of the opportunities below, excluding Front Desk and Hospitality Cart volunteering. Contact Darcy for scheduling and project recommendations.

Be a Guest Chef—Cook a Meal

Families often return to the House after a long day at the hospital, when cooking may be the last thing on their minds. A home-cooked dinner helps make Ronald McDonald House Tulsa a comfortable and welcoming place for families.

  • Dinner is served at 5:30 p.m.
  • All parts of the meal must be prepared in a commercial kitchen.
  • Every participant must have a Volunteer Food Handler Permit from the Tulsa Health Department.

Be a Kitchen Volunteer

If Guest Chef is not the right fit but you still want to help feed families, choose one of these flexible kitchen projects. Times and dates vary; contact Darcy to schedule.

Bake a Treat

Fresh-baked treats in the House add comfort to guests’ stays.

Prepare a Freezer Dinner

Prepare a meal for the freezer that staff can heat and serve later. Please plan enough food for 25 meals.

Prepare a Freezer Breakfast

Breakfast burritos or breakfast sandwiches ready to reheat add an extra-special morning option for families.

Pack Lunches with Love

Lunches are packed Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday evenings from 6–8 p.m., then delivered to families at Saint Francis Children’s Hospital the following day.

Food permit reminder: All kitchen volunteer participants must have a Tulsa Health Department Volunteer Food Handler Permit. Complete the free online training before volunteering.

Be a House Helper

In just a couple of hours, you can help keep the House clean, safe, and welcoming for families.

8–10 a.m.

Opening duties such as light cleaning, deep-cleaning the kitchen, and restocking the kitchen area.

10 a.m.–12 p.m.

Light cleaning, organizing donations, organizing the pantry, or deep-cleaning the commercial kitchen.

1–3 p.m.

Light cleaning, organizing donations, organizing the pantry, laundry, or yardwork depending on the weather.

3–5 p.m.

Light cleaning, organizing donations, laundry, or yardwork depending on the weather.

5–7 p.m.

Tidy common areas, including sweeping, wiping down counters, and cleaning up after the evening meal.

Scheduling note: These are general examples for each time slot. Jobs may change based on House activities and current needs. If a preferred task does not fall within your available time, please let the team know.

Weekly Volunteer Roles

Be a Front Desk Volunteer

Help staff with daily House operations while providing hospitality and a caring atmosphere. Tasks may include answering phones, assisting with family check-ins and check-outs, giving tours, and other duties requested by staff.

  • Volunteers must be age 18 or older.
  • A weekly or monthly commitment is required.
  • Weekday evening shifts are Monday–Friday, 5–8 p.m.
  • Weekend shifts are Saturday and Sunday, 9 a.m.–1 p.m., 1–5 p.m., or 5–8 p.m.
  • Additional training is required and scheduled with Darcy.

Volunteer with the Hospitality Cart

The Hospitality Cart brings complimentary snacks, toiletries, reading material, games, toys, and crafts to parents, caregivers, patients, and siblings at Saint Francis Children’s Hospital. A friendly volunteer reminds families that Ronald McDonald House Tulsa is there to provide comfort during a difficult time.

  • Volunteers must be age 18 or older.
  • Two-hour shifts visit four hospital floors.
  • A weekly or monthly commitment is required.
  • Additional training is required and scheduled with Darcy.

Help the House with a Remote Project

Support families staying at Ronald McDonald House Tulsa from a schedule and location that work for you.

Host a Wish List Drive

Share the Ronald McDonald House Tulsa Wish List with family or friends and collect needed items. Contact the House to ask what is most needed.

Pack Care Kits

Fill a clear plastic bag with shampoo, conditioner, body wash or soap, a toothbrush, and toothpaste.

Make Snack Packs

Fill a clear plastic bag with individually wrapped snacks families can take to the hospital. Please do not include nuts.

Collect Pop Tabs

Collect aluminum pop tabs in any container, then bring them to the House for recycling.

Create Activity Kits

Fill a clear plastic bag with activities for long hospital days, such as craft items, card games, and puzzle books for guests of all ages.
